In all honesty, junk foods have turned into the bane of all existence to many of us. They’re unrealistically delicious, while at the same they don’t satiate your hunger, so you can’t get enough, hence you just keep eating until you look at the scales and start wondering what in the world happened. This is not your fault, though. Companies spend millions of dollars in research so they can find the best consistency, taste, form, etc. for their foods. Junk foods are especially designed to fool your brain in several ways, all in all making them addictive (like drugs).
First off, your brain is fooled that you’re not getting any calories and nutrition from the food you’re eating. This means that you can keep eating after you finish a bag of chips, despite the fact that it’s packed of fats and calories. To your brain, you haven’t received any of that, which is what makes them so dangerous. It’s really easy to overeat and get way more calories than you need.
Another thing is the taste. Most junk foods don’t taste natural in any way, shape or form. Their taste is based on research and designed in such a way that it’s both delicious and constantly novel to your brain so you don’t get sick of it as fast as with normal foods. For example, if you eat a healthy salad for a week, you will be so sick of it in the end that you will not want to see it, let alone eat it. However, with junk foods this happens a lot slower. If you eat a bag of chips every night, you will (probably) not get sick of it.
All of these are clever methods to fool your brain you want to eat this food and that you’re not getting any calories from it. If you cut it out of your life, you will significantly reduce your calorie intake, and if you don’t replace it with anything else – lose weight.
